  • The motor tends to be the most expensive replacement part for any central vacuum system and it's also a good idea to replace the filter when you're replacing the motor. This process can add to not only the overall cost of the repair but the time you'll spend as well. Keeping in mind that replacement motors will only have a one(1) year warranty, another option to consider would be to replace the entire power unit in favor of a newer model. Newer power units can have up to a twenty(20) year, no-strings-attached, warranty and will often be quieter too!

I ordered the replacement motor and just to be sure, the circuit board as well. Pretty straightforward installation, but I wasn't sure which power wire from the motor plugged in where. They're both the same color.  I just assumed the ground wire would be closest to the ground connection, and then the power wires lined up the same as the old motor. Lucky guess!

This replacement for my central vacuum system made me realize how poorly the old motor had been functioning.  Strong function has been restored and my rugs and floors are cleaner than ever.
